My Profile

I didn't get to see the lates films as a child, because we were not allowed to go to the movies.  Fortunately, my parents kept us busy.  I participated in many exciting activities.  However, I always thought I missed out on a lot, by not seeing movies as a child.  But, I satisfied myself by reading many of the classics.

To my delight, I learned that many of my favorite books were made into film.  I remember, watching Victor Hugo's, THE HUNCH BACK OF NOTRE DAME, Charles Dickens, GREAT EXPECTATIONS, and DAVID COPPERFIELD when I was older and attended a restored ornate movie theatre in New York during a two week visit with a college friend.  Later, I saw the film adaptation of Pearl S. Buck's, THE GOOD EARTH.  I was not disappointed.

Most of my adult life, I've enjoyed the classic movies, especially film adaptations of classic writers such as Charles Dickens, Jane Austin, and Emily Bronte [WUTHERING HEIGHTS].  I also favor movies based on famous individuals in politics [GANDHI, THE LAST EMPEROR, MALCOM X, ELIZABETH, etc.], and of real individuals whose efforts saved lives, or whose efforts brought about change in social, political, and cultural policy. Among this latter catagory include movies such as, SCHINDLER'S LIST, NORMA RAE, LA AMISTAD, and [more recently] CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR.

During my spare time when I'm not reading or watching movies, I blog on several website, including AAPR's ONLINE COMMUNITY where I participate in various groups.  Incidentally, I learned about POPCORN CONFESSIONS, in a group in the AARP ONLINE COMMUNITY.  I'm also a frequent blogger on wowowow.com.  The latter website was launced in Spring 2008, created as a place for women age 40 plus to exchange commentary on various issues of the day.  There are many reviews of the latest movies/films on wowowow, written by some of America's best film critics.

Yet, my favorite website is Freerice.com

This website is a quiz site, launced in October 2007.  Freerice.com provides and excellent opertunity for everyone to play a role in fighting world hunder, while enjoying a simple quiz in a catagory of your choice.  What a great way to brush up on vocabulary, grammer, math, language, science, and other areas and at the same time contribute to world hunger simply by answering a question correctly.  For each answer you get correct, 20 grains of rice are donated to The United Nations Food Program and its subsidiary world organizations, to fight world hunger.  Each day, or whenever I log online, I try to fill four bowls of rice by answering a few questions correctly in whatever catagory I choose.  I hope you will add Freerice.com to your favorite.

Still, more than anything, I admit that I enjoy a great movie - for relaxation, for entertainment, for 'escape', for education, and for the sheer pleasure of seeing wonderful adventures on film; adventures that I will probably never experience in real life. - And, that's the incredible majic of movies!!  Featured films allows us to travel to distant place in different time periods, and meet historic figures and other individuals whom we want to learn more about.  Best of all, we can enjoy the majic of movies either in a movie theatre, or in the comfort of our homes.

All the best to everyone.
