African Queen Movie Review
The African Queen is my favorite Bogart picture. It's a comedy, a drama and a romance all rolled into one; the chemistry between Bogart and Hepburn is magical. It's set in Africa (I forget which country)during WW1 and also stars Kate Hepburn. Bogart plays a gin-loving mail carrier, Charles Ullnut, who delivers mail and other supplies to English missionaries Rose (Hepburn)and her brother, using his boat, The African Queen.
After Germans destroy the African village and kill Rose's brother, she and Ullnut leave the village by way of the African Queen. During their voyage they must face white water rapids, alligators, mosquitoes, German soldiers, and, worst of all, each other.
They discover that they work well together when they face danger, and they gradually change to suit each other's needs. They eventually fall in love and decide to make one last effort to hurt the Germans.
The African Queen is a classic that's satisfying from beginning to end.
