Pharoah\'s Army Movie Review
A small movie, directed by Robby Henson and based on a true story of an old man who confessed on his dying bed to having killed a yankee soldier in his youth. It is the story of a Yankee Captain, played very well by Chris Cooper, who is on a foraging expedition and comes across a cabin and farm in the Kentucky hills. The efforts of the Yankees to supply their army by stealing from the locals turns into a microcosm of the war. The Yankee soldiers are caught in a very personal war with the local family and their neighbors. Chris Cooper does a good job showing the internal emotional conflict wrought by the war as well as the physical conflict and fighting. Kris Kristopherson has a dramatic but brief role as the preacher. The real star of the movie is the mother, played by Patricia Clarkson and conflict and pain she is able to show on the screen that in a small way does justice to the anger, pain, and horror no doubt felt by many of the women of the time as they were victimized in one way or another by the war.
A good story that makes the audience think differently about the civil war and the impact it had on the people of the time.
