Benicio Del Toro plays Lawrence Talbot who is called back to the estate of his father by Gwen Conliffe, the fiancee of his brother who locates him in London to tell him of the disappearance of his brother. He returns to the estate to meet his father, Sir John Talbot played superbly by Anthony Hopkins. He learns immediately that his brothers body has been found but that is only the beginning of the story as he finds his brothers body was mutilated by an animal or creature which the story soon reveals to be a Werewolf.

This is a movie that is based on and built on the classic Werewolf movies of the black and white era when suspense and story were more the point that the special effects. The blood and gore and special effects of the changing Werewolf is a big part of the movie but is well done and the blood and gore is acceptable as part of the horror of this movie genre and is not otherwise over done.

I am not really a classic horror movie fan but this movie was very well done. The acting was excellent.  The story line was good. The character development was very good and the technical aspects of the movie from the use of light and dark to set the mood to the back ground music all amount to a very well made movie.
