This is another Stephen King novel that works very well as a movie. The acting by Tom Hanks and Michael Clarke Duncan make watching a pleasure. The story is told from the perspective of a very old man who is remembering his experience as a prison guard and his meeting with Duncan's character who is on death row. The experience is literally life changing for Hanks's character. The use of the flash back to tell the story from the old mans point of view allows the director, to show the story as much as tell the story. The sympathy felt for Duncans character by both Hanks and the audience makes the movie not only entertaining but satisfying as a story line.
