John Adams Movie Review
This is an excellent HBO series about the life of John Adams, one of our somewhat lesser known Founding Fathers. It is based on the wonderful book by David McCullough that made extensive use of the still existing letters between John Adams and his wife Abigail and between John Adams and Thomas Jefferson
The feel of the movie is great. The director has gone to the trouble to recreate the 18th Century and the use of period costume, the set, and the wonderful music all add up to a pleasurable movie viewing.
The story is exciting for history buffs and novices alike and presents the characters in a frame of time and presents political and philosophical arguments still being reframed today.
The acting is excellent throughout but the performance of Paul Giamatti as John Adams and Laura Linney as Abigail Adams warrants special acclaim. They were so convincing. This work is wonderful and makes me wish for other historical figures and historical times to receive this wonderful treatment of re-creation.
