Murder by the Numbers Movie Review
Sandra Bullock is really quite good in the role of Cassie Mayweather a female super homocide detective who matches wits with two rich kids who commit a murder just to engage in the battle to prove that they are smarter than the police and can manage the police investigation with well planned clues left for the police to find and guide them away from the truth.
Cassie also has her own demons from the past and struggles to relate in a meaningful way to others on the force, especially her partner Sam,played by Ben Chaplin. Perhaps meant to humanize or make Cassie less than perfect so the audience will relate to her, i found it a distraction that told us more than we wanted to know and less than we wanted to know about who Cassie is and why she does what she does.
A more meaningful study might have been to give us more insight into the two murderers and what drove them to do the murder. It is almost too simple to accept that they were rich and bored or that they sought to impress each other with their intelligence and willingness to commit suicide.
Overall I found this a good movie that is well worth watching largely because of Sandra Bullock. This was a serious and demanding role for her which she performed well.
