Carey Mulligan is the star of this movie in the role of Jenny. I have heard her referred to as being like a young Audrey Hepburn. There is a similarity even in the appearance but the strong acting ability she shows suggests she will be her own role model.

Jenny is a 16 year old school girl who falls for an older man and enters into a relationship drawn by the excitement of the places he can take her and bored by her existence as a school girl studying hard for possible entry into Oxford.

The story line of the older man preying on the younger girl is somewhat predictable but handled in a way that the character of David is a cad but not identified as the true villain he probably really would be.

The story line supports the importance of formal education while at the same time suggesting a missing element in a true education that is gained from living life and experiencing both the highs and lows of life.
