Sam Elliott is superb in the role of Con Vallian in this western based on a Louis L"Amour. He is the western hero who adopts the struggling eastern family with their beautiful horses, overloaded wagon and wife and child.

He is the guardian angel who protects them and educates them as they try to adapt to the new ways and dangers of the west of 1876 Wyoming.

Elliott fits the role as if it were written for him. It makes good entertainment  for the Western fan.
