I had the pleasure of watching Driving Miss Daisy last night when it was on T.V., and I fell in love with it instantly.  I had seen it once before, but I was too young to appreciate it.  Needless to say, my taste in movies had matured somewhat since then.

Miss Daisy (Jessica Tandy) needs help.  She doesn't want it, but she needs it.  Help comes in the form of Hoke (Morgan Freeman), the black chauffeur hired by Miss Daisy's doting son (Dan Aykroyd) to drive Miss Daisy around town and help out around the house.

A proud woman, Miss Daisy doesn't take too kindly to Hoke and doesn't like the idea of having a chaffeur around; she thinks a chaffeur would make her look too rich in front of her friends from the Jewish Temple Miss Daisy belongs to.  But as the years go by (30, I believe), what was once employer/employee, eventually becomes friend/friend.  As the years go by and as the times change, Hoke and Miss Daisy find that they not only need each other, but also develop a strong bond of friendship which took thirty years in the making.  As Miss Daisy stated at the end of the movie, "Hoke, you're my best friend."

Now I usually don't tear up while watching a movie, but I found myself choking back a few during Driving Miss Daisy.  That says a lot about the outstanding performances of Freeman and Tandy.

Driving Miss Daisy proves that a great movie doesn't need to be flashy, expensive, or full of special effects.  The only ingredients required are a quality script and quality actors, and Driving Miss Daisy has both of these.  Driving Miss Daisy is a bittersweet movie which made me laugh at times and made me tear up at times, but is enjoyable to watch every time!
