Gene Hackman and Morgan Freeman are great in their respective roles of suspect and interrogator in a movie that almost could be a stage play as most of the action takes place in the police station in Puerto Rico as dialog between these two great actors.

Hackman is called into the police station by his friend Freeman, the local police captain. Freeman says the interview will take only a few minutes to clear up questions about a report of a murder that Hackman has made.

The interrogation begins to strip away secrets and soon we see Hackman, not as the rich attorney benefactor of the poor but as a man with marital problems who visits prostitutes and maybe much worse.

The interrogation creates suspicion and reveals Hackman as less than admirable but we continue to question whether his sins are just sins or maybe also crimes.

The ending is less than satisfactory because it leaves doubt and questions about motivation and behavior. It is a movie worth watching for the excellent acting and dialog but even after the movie ends you are not really sure if you got it. The message of the movie is what ever you think it is but it is clear that the director wants you to understand that what you think you know you do not know.
