This is an entertaining police detective thriller/mystery starring Ashley Judd, Samuel L Jackson and Andy Garcia. Jessica Shepard (Ashley Judd) is a police officer just promoted to Detective after her success in arresting a serial killer. She was raised by the police chief, John Mills, ( Samuel L Jackson) when her father, Mills's former partner killed himself after first killing his wife and her lovers. Andy Garcia is Mike Delmarco, her new partner in the Detective unit. A series of killings with each body marked with a specific cigarette burn, becomes more than a coincidence as each victim turns out to be someone Jessica had slept with. She comes to question even her own sanity when she begins to experience blackouts and each time she awakens another body has been found. She becomes, as she says to her police psychiatrist, her own best suspect. All the clues fall into place at the end as the past is revealed as prelude and the truth and the facts challenge Jessica to decide whether she is a real cop or not.
