From the point of view of the wife, Rachel McAdams as Clare Abshire, this is a movie about not only the strength of a love that knows no time or other barriers but about a long suffering woman who makes every sacrifice to love the man of her dreams and try to create a family with him.

Eric Bana is Henry De Tamble who has a strange genetic twist to his make up that causes him to disappear and reappear at different times. He is unable to control this so it is enormously frustrating not only for him but for Clare as his friend, lover, and wife. How do you continue to love someone without reservations when they disappear at odd times and reappear with no reason or explanation.

It is not really a time travel movie; that is just a supporting plot device. This is a movie about a great love and how it endures time and the trials of life.
