Ox-Bow Incident Movie Review
I saw the movie, TWELVE ANGRY MEN a few years before I saw THE OX BOW INCIDENT. At the time, I was struck by the powerful message in the former movie, which managed to depict an excellent example that a 'majority' opinion does not necessarily effect a 'just' outcome, or effect in an 'act' which is morally right/legitimate, or effect an 'absolute' truth.
OX BOW INCIDENT is similar in that it also examines the human response to acting on what is 'just'; and this movie also asks if justice is ever served in the rush of rage/temper when a crime is committed against someone/those we care about. More importantly, is the message of how quickly 'mob mentality' can emerge in haste for revenge to 'right' a perceived wrong.
In this classic western of the early 40's, OX BOW INCIDENT is an account of what happens when men decide to press for 'justice', discounting the law. This classic encompasses themes about false valor, mob mentality, pride, and ultimately redemption. In the end, Henry Fonda's and Dana Andrews' characters emerge the true heroes.
This is a must have among classic westerns.

The characters of Henry Fonda and Harry Morgan as just average cowboys adds to the intensity of the mob mentality by causing the audience to question how they as average or ordinary people might react to this mob pressure. This is one of the really great and under rated Westerns.
