Stranger Than Fiction Movie Review

Very literary film. A rare movie that plays like a book.

This is one of my favorite recent movies. Will Ferrel's understated everyman performance is brilliant, as are the eccentric performances of Dustin Hoffman, as the english professor, and Emma Thompson, as the author/narrator of Harold Crick's (Will Ferrel's) life.

If you're not familiar with the story, basically Harold Crick, an absolutely normal boring IRS employee, begins hearing a voice narrating his life. At first thinking he's crazy, the voice begins to make too much sense, speaking about events in Harold's life of which he is not personally aware.

Harold seeks out the help of literary Professor Hilbert (Dustin Hoffman) to try and get his life under his own control before it's too late.

A word of warning. Don't go into this film if you are expecting a 'Will Ferrel' movie (think Anchorman). This is a drama/comedy. Most of the humor is a lot more dark and situational than silly.

Overall, a brilliantly unique and original setup for the movie. You should see this one all the way through to the end.
