Slumdog Millionaire Movie Review
When I learned that Slumdog Millionaire won the best movie of the year award, the news piqued my curiosity and desire to see the movie. I wasn't expecting much. It is after all a movie made in India with unknown actors. But I was surprised and pleased with the film and would not hesitate recommending it to others.
The setting is in India and the story revolves around a young man who becomes an unlikely candidate on Who Wants to be a Millionaire. Since he is from the slums and is uneducated, he is not expected to know the answers. When he answers the questions correctly and starts winning, the producers of the show suspect he is cheating and have him arrested and tortured to learn the truth. Through flashbacks of his life and experiences in the slum, the audience comes to know how he has learned the answers to these questions. We also learn that he did not become a candidate to win a lot of money but to make contact with a girl he has long loved but lost contact with. He knows that she is an avid viewer of the show and he hopes that she will see him on the program and they will find each other again.
The acting is excellent and the photography of the sights of India make this a superb movie to watch. I recommend it as well worth the price of admission.
