It is still possible to see great Western movies. Robert Duvall as Boss Spearman and Kevin Costner as Charley Waite, recreate real western characters is a real western adventure. Duvall and Costner are forced into a showdown with the local land baron when he attempts to terrorize them and force them to keep moving on when they stop to graze their cattle on nearby open range. Annette Bening, as Sue Barlow provides the love interest for Charley as the sister of the local doctor who keeps having to patch up and treat their wounds. Boss and Charlie portray the western strength of character in standing up to the Bully Land Baron but also show the softer side of their characters by caring for their friends who are hurt or killed. To prove who is the good guy and who is the bad guy, the bad guys kill the herders dog. Charlie and Boss rescue a dog from a flood proving they are the truly good guys. The show down and gun fight at the end are dramatic and extremely well done. The scenery and photography make it a pleasant movie to watch. Western fans will love this movie.
